Parnelli Jones, driving Ol’ Calhoun, finally wins the Indy 500. Parnelli had finished 12th in 1961, and 7th in 1962. However, it takes so many things to go exactly right to win at Indy, and Parnelli and his team executed perfectly in 1963. The painting shows starter Pat Vidan waving the checkered flag with his right hand while holding the yellow in his left. The yellow was thrown as a result of a spin by another car on the final lap.
Jones continued his illustrious career in the U. S. and worldwide as a driver, car owner, team owner, and successful businessman.
